Happy 9th Birthday, Abi!

Abi fell in love with the character Merida from the Disney movie, BRAVE. All summer long, all she talked about was Merida, Merida, Merida! Abi bought a small bow and arrow from Wal-Mart, and spent many hours trying to hit various targets. She even convinced her brothers to buy one so they could have archery contests. It made perfect sense that her birthday have a BRAVE theme, and it just happened to fall around the time that the movie was opening in the theater.

We invited a few girls from church over to have a Scottish themed birthday. We played some games that Scottish children like to play. They had a potato sack race, played tug-of-war, and the egg on a spoon race. Instead of real eggs I filled plastic eggs with water, which provided for nice refreshment since it was already over 90 degrees at 9:30 in the morning. Love San Antonio summers!

Inside where it was nice and cool, we played pin the arrow on the target. I thought it was a much safer alternative to having them actually shooting arrows of any kind.

They also made a coat of arms that described themselves. It was interesting to hear their conversations and see their end results.

For refreshments we had cupcakes decorated like bulls-eyes, sweet buns, shortbread cookies, and apples.

Abi was so happy to spend some time with girls her age for her birthday.

Thankfully playgroup landed on the same day as Abi’s birthday. It was supposed to be over 100 degrees, so playing in the pool was perfect.

This year Everett lent his artistic talents to draw on the white board for Abi’s birthday. He drew the flag of Scotland, a bow, arrow, and target, and the Whisps from the BRAVE movie. Beau added a nice picture of Merida.

After we had dinner and the cake of course, we went to finally see the movie BRAVE. It was such a great movie!
Abi has grown so incredibly fast. It’s hard to believe that 9 years have already gone by. She is a compassionate, beautiful, smart, talented, and funny young lady. She is always willing to help around the house in any way she can, and is such a fantastic example to her brothers and sisters. It is such a blessing to have her in our home. I look forward to seeing what the next 9 years brings!
